This is a terrific mid-century modern wall unit from 1961 by Lane. The unit is from their ‘Tuxedo’ series which is a very uncommon collection. The unit is fashioned from a hardwood base overlaid with stunning walnut veneer. It is one-piece in design, but the openness in the center gives the piece a surprisingly light feeling. There is a gallery across the top with bow-tie shaped spindles for an elegant accent. The side panels are inverted at the top, once again playing off the bow-tie theme. The top portion is fitted with a glass-front cabinet, perfect for storing books, decorative objects and other items. The bottom section has two long drawers for additional storage, each with its original metal bow-tie hardware. The unit is mounted on a recessed stretcher base with four angled legs for Danish influence. It measures 44” wide x 15” deep x 69” tall and is in excellent condition. This fantastic mid-century wall unit has great personality, and its versatile design will make it a favorite piece in any modernist’s collection.
