This is a powerful mid-century modern wall unit from Stanley’s ‘Linear Precision Group’. The unit is comprised of a credenza with a removable hutch top. The credenza is made from walnut with incredible figuring to the wood grain on the top and sides. The front is fitted with two sets of blind doors, each with an hourglass inlay made from rosewood. The striking combination of the lighter walnut against the rich rosewood makes for a dramatic statement. The doors retain their original silver and black washers and silver bullet knobs. Inside, the credenza has one adjustable shelf in the left cabinet and three sliding drawers in the right. The credenza is mounted on a solid walnut stretcher base with six cube legs. The front three have large silver caps for a sleek accent. The hutch top is mounted on a wrought iron base – a nod toward the linear appeal of Paul McCobb. The top portion is fitted with a pair of sliding doors with a checkered walnut and rosewood pattern. They can slide together in the center or push out toward the ends to cover the cabinets. There are two walnut drawers in the center flanked by open air cubbies. Both drawers retain their original silver knobs. The entire unit has been meticulously refinished to bring out the beauty of the different woods. This marvelous walnut and rosewood wall unit by Stanley is an incredibly rare and superlative example of mid-century modern design.
